As the Edwardian age dawned and women entered the work force and began participating in outdoor sports, they needed a more practical and casual wardrobe. This was the skirt they wore. The gored walking skirt is smoothly fitted in front and flares from a narrow waistband to street or full length. Tiny gathers below the back waist give fullness. The skirt is finished with a placket at the centre back. The pattern also includes instructions for decorative cutwork embroidery (Broderie Anglaise).
